American Express Platinum Card

Summary: While the American Express® Gold Card is built for daily food and grocery spending, the American Express® Platinum Card is a premium, heavy-hitting lifestyle and luxury travel product. It comes with a steep $895 annual fee. However, it packs more than $3,500 in potential annual value. It functions essentially as a "lifestyle coupon book" paired with the best airport lounge access in the industry. To get the full experience of travel, it’s either between this card or the Chase Sapphire Reserve.

Credits: Hotel, Resy, Digital Entertainment, Lululemon, Airline Incidentals, Uber, Oura, CLEAR+, Walmart+

Personal Experience: I got this card after the Amex Gold card and the very beginning with the whole refresh. I think I didn’t get the full welcome offer that you can get, missed one of the hotel credits, and didn’t realize the only earning points extra was booking flights directly (everything else 1X). There have many recent things that made the card less valuable: no more Saks, fixing the airline incidental hacks, and no use of the Oura ring credit after getting one. But, I think the most worth it are using the other credits and the Centurion Lounge itself, as I can book any flights to get in.

    Pros

  • 5X on flights
  • The Centurion Lounge
  • Offers the most credits
  • Cons

  • Highest annual fee
  • 1X everything else
  • Some credits are worthless/hard to use
